I hate to burst your bubble O' you anti-protest peeps. Mr Clooney was arrested for an act of civil disobedience: he and the other protestors were blocking the entrance to the Sudanese embassy. The police warned them three times not to cross "the police line" and when they did, police officers on site arrested George Clooney and a few other activists. George Clooney &Co were taken away in plastic handcuffs (also known as Zip Ties) and they continued their chanting against the criminal Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashir.
George Clooney had planned this protest, and knew that they will be arrested. Clooney knew that the arrest of a mega star like him would bring his cause to attention. So he accepted the cuffs willingly.

Even though many people would just disregard this arrest as a 'media stunt.' I like it, because it is a stunt that works.
Now, thousands of people worldwide will google George Clooney's arrest and try to find out more about why he did. Thousands of people will now know that somewhere in Africa, Omar Al-Bashir is murdering and starving the People of the Nuba Mountains. And if this is how Clooney uses his fame and stardom, then all the power to him.

Unless mr Clooney is being used (as we are all, somehow) to support some kind of policy that aims at disposing of Al Bashir to implant some super power even more in this forsaken area. (Haro on the dictator, just like in Irak and then ...)
I want to believe Clooney is a good guy though.
Amira-
I choose to believe you are much more savvy about something like this since you are in the middle of this so if you say it helps, I choose to believe Clooney did it to help. He's never been one for publicity stunts. He doesn't seem to care about fame. I think he did it to make a statement.
God there are so many things that go on in this world that I have no idea about, have no clue that even my government is involved in. How do you keep in the know?

I spent a lot of time (probably too much for my own good!) reading news from all over the world. I also listen to the "beats" in the heart of the blogosphere. Somehow bloggers always know what's worth knowing in every corner of the world.
I do believe that George Clooney is a true humanist. What government intents are--that is something entirely different. And something that none of us "regular" folks can be so sure about anyway
... Give'em the benefit of the doubt is my motto.
